Over the weekend I applied a new design theme to the Pittsburgh SEO Group website. This theme allows for me to have the next meeting featured at the top without creating duplicate content. I also like how this theme is cleaner and simpler than before. You also probably noticed that added a few sponsor banners, one at the top and two on the side. These are relative to the group and will help with maintaining and promoting the website.
I recently redesigned my personal website and included a page with free SEO tools. These are tools that I use on a regular basis to help me optimize, track and review my SEO progress. Please check out the list and if you know of any SEO tools tools that you feel deserve to be on the list please let me know.

Good news, the Post Gazette added our next meeting to their calendar which can be found here. We hope to see the growth of this group to continue and for it to reach a larger audience. Any suggestions to where else we should announce our meetings are welcomed and we hope to see some new faces at our next meeting.
Recently a friend of me came to me with an SEO problem. His site is almost two years old and has a 0 page rank. I took a quick view of his site and all his paragraphs were in <H4> tags and I think that search engines are seeing that as a Black Hat SEO method. Now I can’t say this is the only reason Google hasn’t gave his site any page rank but I am going to definitely recommend that he change it.

According to a post made last night on the Official Google Webmaster Central Blog they have improved Google’s ability to index Flash websites. This is big news because from an SEO standpoint we’ve always had to steer away from using flash to display textual content this can change everything.

Are you worried that your site might of been blacklisted by Google or would you like to have a way to be notified if yours or a clients site was blacklisted. If so then I have a great new and free tool you can use called SERPGuard. Its free service that checks the Google Safe Browsing Blacklists and sends you an instant notification through email and/or an RSS feed.
One thing about SEO is that it’s always evolving; new link building techniques, new search engine algorithms, new programing strategies, etc. If you really want to be on top of the Internet Marketing industry then you’re going to need to subscribe to some RSS feed or at least visit a well respected search engine marketing website on a daily basis.
